Xicada

Wavering in a universe between darkness and transcendence, experimental electronic artist Xicada (Ilyse Krivel) pursues imagined worlds, altered-states, rhythmic and textural play through electronic music. Her music delves into themes of perception, crafting a haunting atmosphere with dark, pulsating rhythms, eerie textures, and spectral vocals that weave through the decaying landscape she conjures. The result is a chilling soundtrack to a cyber-goth future suspended in a dimensional rift. Her 2025 album ENGAGING ANIMAL EARTH travels through limbo and bardo spaces—thresholds of consciousness and existence —and invites the listener to journey through an evolving sonic landscape that navigates the tension between spirituality and materialism in our contemporary world. Xicada has shared the stage with notable artists like E-Saggila (TO), Pessimist (UK), Spike Hellis (USA), Dis Fig (USA), Black Ox Orkestar (MTL), Jessica Moss (MTL), and Not The Wind Not The Flag (TO), among others. Her music has been released on labels such as Halocline Trance, Foxy Digitalis, Borscht Records, and Aural Tethers. In addition, she is co-creator of Borscht record label and internet radio station and a member of the non-profit music promotion collective Degeneral Strike.
